Arts for Lawrence is honored to host the Greenlawn Cemetery Traveling Exhibit, a powerful and moving installation that brings to light the long-overlooked history of one of Indianapolis’ earliest Black cemeteries.
Created by Mirror Indy and featuring artwork by central Indiana artist Shaunt’e Lewis, the exhibit explores how major construction projects disrupted this sacred site and the efforts now underway to reclaim its story.
Visitors will experience illustrated portraits of historians and community advocates, an interactive timeline dating back to the cemetery’s founding in 1821, and audio/video interviews accessible via QR codes.
